COOKING WITH FIRE - KENT - 09/10/27

COOKING WITH FIRE - KENT - 09/10/27

£275.00

As autumn settles across the Kent countryside and the game season begins, we return to The Cutting for a day of outdoor cooking at our secluded woodland site.

Once part of a hidden World War II railway network, this unique site has long since been reclaimed by nature. Surrounded by mature trees and a neighbouring shooting estate, pheasants and partridge are a familiar sight amongst the undergrowth.

This hands-on experience explores the fundamentals of cooking with fire through seasonal ingredients, traditional techniques and an introduction to wild food. With game from the surrounding countryside and fresh seafood from the nearby Kent coast, we’ll prepare a series of dishes over wood and charcoal while learning how to build and manage fire, cook confidently over live flame and make the most of simple tools.

Throughout the day, we’ll share some of our favourite recipes from the autumn FIRE + WILD menu, exploring the ingredients and techniques behind each dish as we prepare them together around the fire. We’ll finish with a seasonal feast, enjoying everything we’ve cooked throughout the day alongside carefully selected wines and wild cocktails.

Immerse yourself in the world of autumnal wild food and open fire cooking in a beautiful outdoor setting. This event takes place at a private site near Canterbury, Kent - around 40 mins drive from Margate and 1.5 hours drive from London. Further details and FAQs can be found below. Full directions and arrival information will be sent to guests after booking.

The day begins with an introduction to some of our favourite seasonal wild ingredients. We’ll talk through their identification, flavours and uses in the dishes we’ll be preparing throughout the day, including wild mushrooms and other autumn finds.

We’ll teach you the basics — wood selection, axe skills and temperature control — and how to manage and maintain a fire for cooking.

With a particular focus on seasonal game, we’ll demonstrate traditional butchery techniques, including how to prepare and portion game birds for different cooking methods. Guests will have the opportunity to get hands-on, learning how to work with wild meat before cooking it over wood, charcoal and open flame.

The event starts at 11am and finishes at 4pm. Participants will need to make their own way to the meeting point. Free onsite parking is provided. The full address and travel advice will be provided after booking. Not suitable for under 18s.
